Photography is in my blood. My paternal grandfather had the first photography studio in Zacapa, Guatemala – my father’s hometown. I’ve been behind the camera for most of my life. For more than 20 years, photography has been a primary form of expression for me – truly my first love in the art world.
My childhood was on the cusp of the digital photography take-over. At around 8 years old, with a polaroid camera in my hand & my little sister posing, I was able to experience the magic of analog photography. There was a sacredness to capturing a moment in time with visual media that we seem to have lost with the ubiquity of pocket cameras.
The power of the image rests not solely in the tools used, the subjects captured, or the intentions brought forth. The power of the image derives entirely from synthesis – an "all-at-once-ness". It’s an alchemy of light, time, & dense matter to produce an energetic imprint. Photographs offer a glimpse of a single perspective amongst the infinite available. So much can be found in an imposed stillness upon the ever-changing ephemeral expression of consciousness.
